Are you ready for one of AMCC’s biggest events of the semester?! We’re kicking off Islam Awareness Week with a night full of hilarity and fun. This year we will be hosting two of the biggest Muslim comedians we know of; Mo Amer and Dean Obeidallah! Get ready to bust a gut at the biggest comedy show of the year! And did we mention, its absolutely FREE to everyone; student, non-students, children, adults, everyone is welcome! So bring your family and friends, we would welcome and encourage it!
Dubbed ‘the Arab-American Bill Cosby,’ Mohammed “Mo” Amer is a bona fide headliner, an established standup comedian from Houston, Texas. In the classic storyteller tradition, Mo is the rare comic gem who started performing standup in high school while still in his mid-teens, racking up years of experience touring literally across the world, with an impressive global and national standup resume before even hitting his 30th birthday.
He has performed in over two dozen countries on five continents—as the first and only Arab-American refugee comic to perform for U.S. and coalition troops overseas, as well as with “Allah Made Me Funny—The Official Muslim Comedy Tour.” His solo show, entitled “Legally Homeless: Trials of a Refugee,” is presently in development for a feature length docu-comedy. Amer is Kuwaiti born and of Palestinian descent.
Born in the Great State of New Jersey, Dean’s comedy comes in large part from his unique background of being the son of a Palestinian father and a Sicilian mother. Dean, an award winning comedian who was at one time a practicing attorney, co-starred on Comedy Central’s “The Axis of Evil” Comedy TV special. He is the co-creator of Comedy Central.com’s critically acclaimed Internet series “The Watch List” featuring a cast of all Middle Eastern-American comedians performing stand up and sketch comedy. Dean has appeared twice on ABC’s “The View,” on the nationally syndicated TV series “Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen” and was one of five comedians profiled in the recent one hour TV Special entitled: “Stand Up: Muslim-American Comics Come of Age” which aired in the US on PBS and internationally on BBC World and Al Jazeera. In addition to performing comedy throughout the US, Dean has performed in the Middle East in Jordan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, Oman, Israel, Qatar, and Dubai.
