2017 Board Elections

Have you wanted to be a part of the Al-Madinah Cultural Center Board? Well now is your chance, because the AMCC Board Elections will be taking place on Friday, April 21. Those who would like to run for an AMCC board position must be nominated. Nominations are due on Friday, April 14 at 8:00pm!

To run for any position on the AMCC board (excluding treasurer) you must be nominated as a candidate for that position. These nominations are due on Friday, April 14 at 8:00pm. You are allowed to nominate yourself. Upon receiving an email that you have been nominated you will have a limited number of days to respond. If you choose to accept your nomination you must respond with a short bio and prepare a two minute speech to give to the general body on Friday, April 21. Within a couple days after the elections have concluded you will receive an email telling you whether or not you have been elected to be on the AMCC board.

If you would like to nominate someone to be on the AMCC board please email amccelections@gmail.com the name of the person you would like to nominate including their x500 and the position you would like to nominate them for. You are allowed to nominate yourself.

The Elections Committee

The Elections Committee oversees the entire elections process which includes determining a location, preparing a ballot, determining the voting process and tallying the votes. They also oversee the nominating process, which includes collecting nominations and contacting each nominee to determine their acceptance/refusal of the nomination. They are the ones responsible for running the amccelections email. The committee this year includes:

Board Positions

PRESIDENT
The President is the head of the Al-Madinah Cultural Center Board and the official representative of the organization. They preside over all meetings and serves as chair of the Executive Board and utilizes the resources of AMCC to achieve it’s mission. This position is open only to former AMCC board members and elections for this position will be held on April 14.
Incumbent: Zamzam Yusuf

VICE PRESIDENT
The Vice President assists the President in overseeing the affairs of the organization. They will act as President whenever the President is unavailable and will take the position of President if the position ever becomes vacant. This position is open only to former AMCC board members and elections for this position will be held on April 14.
Incumbent: Annis Nusseibeh

TREASURER
The treasure is the financial officer of the AMCC board. They maintain the bank account, keep accurate, up-to-date records of the organizations financial transactions, and prepare the budget, in consultation with the Executive Board. They also submit grants and related paper work as well as prepare for SSF applications. This position is not elected. If you would like to be treasurer of AMCC send a resume and cover letter to madinah@umn.edu. Application deadline is April 30 at 8pm.

SECRETARY
The Secretary arranges meeting times and locations, takes minutes at all meetings, and is responsible for issuing the weekly email newsletter.
Incumbent: Muluka Omar

EVENTS COORDINATOR
The Events Coordinator looks after the logistical responsibilities of AMCC events and programs, including but not limited to reserving rooms, ordering food, and filing permits.
Incumbent: Shukri Elmi

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR
The Volunteer Coordinator coordinates volunteers for AMCC events. They also coordinate volunteer opportunities for the AMCC general body that collaborate with organizations within the University community, as well as the larger metropolitan community.
Incumbent: Mebrura Dzaferovic

OUTREACH COORDINATOR
The Outreach Coordinator generates and maintains publicity of AMCC toward other student organizations, coordinates co-sponsorship with other student organizations, and coordinates advertisement of events to other student organizations.
Incumbent: Nora Abdelal

PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER
The Public Relations Officer generates and maintains publicity of AMCC toward the University community, as well as the larger metropolitan community and coordinates advertisements of events to the University community, as well as the larger metropolitan community.
Incumbent: Amera Hassan

HISTORIAN
The Historian documents information and logistics pertaining to the event planning process and collects qualitative, as well as quantitative details pertaining to AMCC events.
Incumbent: Khalid Hammami

WEBMASTER
The Webmaster maintains the official website, social media, account information, and technological needs of AMCC. They also design fliers for AMCC events and make webpages like the one you’re reading right now.
Incumbent: Malik Nusseibeh

Responsibilities of an AMCC Board Member

Above you will see the various positions on the AMCC board, however the tasks of a board member are not limited to the descriptions above. As a member of the AMCC board your primary role is to fulfill the needs of the organization. This includes both the duties listed above and any tasks assigned by the President and Vice President of AMCC.

The goals of Al-Madinah Cultural Center are:

  1. To create a better understanding of and appreciation for the diverse cultures of Islam and the Muslim world and reduce anti-Muslim prejudice.
  2. To provide a welcoming environment for all students to gather and interact.
